Random Ramblings: February 2015

Last Monday we traveled to Prescott, Arizona.  It was more of a "business" trip for Jacob, than a vacation trip. There is a cement plant called DRAKE CEMENT that has been pursuing him for quite some time now to come work for them.  So they offered to put us up in a hotel for a few days so he could come to the actual plant and check it out, and check out the town and area.

We headed out on Monday the 16th, little Jacob's birthday.
We made it to Barstow and had to stop and eat at the BEST Del Taco for lunch.

This was in the car after we ate, getting back on the road.

We stopped on the state line so that I could take a picture as we entered Arizona.

We took our time, not rush to hurry and get there, but we didn't make tons of stops.  Just a few stops along the way to stretch our legs and use the restroom.  Jacob drove the entire trip there.
We finally got to our hotel that night about 5 I think it was. Which once you cross into Arizona, the time moves ahead an hour so we lost an hour along the way.
We unloaded the car and got all settled into our room. Then we decided we needed to figure out where we were going to go to dinner for little Jacob's birthday.  I did some searching on the internet and we decided to go to a local little Grill restaurant that was pretty close to the hotel. It was called the GURLEY STREET GRILL

SO good.  The food was great, and the restaurant was very nice looking.  We got to sit by the window so we could kind of check out the town, even though it was dark it was still a nice view.   The bread sticks, AMAZING.

After we were done eating we got the boys a brownie ice cream treat, and Chloe a bowl of vanilla ice cream.

After that we went back to the hotel and got the kids all snuggled into bed and they all played on their tablets and we watched some tv until we all crashed.
The next morning Jacob had to be up early to go into the cement plant and me and the kids had no plans.

I cannot even believe this little guy of ours is turning 10 today.  Double digits!!
It is all down hill now, double digits, then a teenager, then driving and high school and girlfriends and then graduating and college... Eye Yi Yi....  I can't even think of all that now.

I remember being pregnant with him like it was just yesterday.  I remember waking up and having to leave the house at 4am the day he was born to get to the hospital in time for my scheduled c-section.  It was cold and raining and dark out that morning.
I remember the surgery and the anxiousness that came along with him being born and not knowing what would be with all the worries they had about him while I was pregnant.  I remember the recovery room and just wanting to sleep.  I remember loving Jacob so much more for making me a mom.  I remember our friends Tabitha and Courtney coming to see me that night in the hospital and wheeling me to the NICU at 8pm so I could finally see little Jacob, I hadn't at all yet that entire day.  I remember him being so small and in his little NICU bed with tubes and wires and dark hair.  Forever my heart was changed at the moment I saw him.  Little did this tiny newborn baby know that he would forever change me as a person, he made me a mom and taught me so much.  He has taught me so much in his little life he will never know.  He will (as well as Caleb and Chloe) never understand how much love I have for them.

He is such a good  little, eh I mean young man. He is so smart, loving and just soaks everything in.  He loves music and all things music related, he can remember the words to any song after hearing it only once.  He likes to read and wants to learn to play the guitar.  He asks a million questions all day long ,everyday and sometimes I laugh at it, but it is just him soaking everything in.

Today on his birthday we are traveling to Arizona for a few days, and then once we get back we will be having his party.

Hope you have a great day little guy.  We love you so much.

Chloe turned 5 this last month. I still can't believe that.  Where has the time gone?
I have been planning her party as Doc Mcstuffin since sometime last year, but right before Christmas she became OBSESSED with Frozen, so I asked her a few times if she wanted to change it (before I got fully invested in decorations and ideas) and she said no, she still wanted to keep it Doc Mcstuffin. I was excited, because I already had many ideas and had already bought a few things and asked my sister in law to make the invitations.

So my first step was to ask my sister in law Amberley to design the invitations. She has an etsy shop you can find HERE called LILIESANDROSES7 I knew with the holidays I was just not going to be able to make them, so the next best thing was to have her design them and then make them a printable so I could just pick them up at my favorite photo printing place and stick them right in the mail.  My first initial idea was to print them blank so I could hand write in all of the information once I figured it out.  But we didn't get that done in time, so she emailed me the card and I opened it in photoshop and added the text information, and saved it again as a jpeg.  Then I sent it to COSTCO which is my favorite photo printing place and picked them up the next day.  This is what the invite looked like.
At first I was just going to do the party colors in just purple and pink, but later decided to add lime green and turquoise as well.

I worked on the decorations and over time bought the stuff for the party.  Every time I went to Target (which is OFTEN, very OFTEN) I would buy some small dessert plates, the colored silverware and table clothes.

I always try to have a cake and cupcakes at the kids parties.  I think it is just fun to have variety.  So I asked my very talanted cousin from ROCK MY CUPCAKE to make her cupcakes.  They turned out even better than I imagined and were SO good.  I mean like SUPER good.
Aren't they the cutest things ever.  I love them so much.

We decorated the night before, since I always seem to wait until the morning of and am always running behind then.

I made the tissue paper flowers, in matching colors.
I moved the table from by the front door, covered it with a pink table cloth and that was the nacho station.
I made this birthday banner to match the party decor, with glitter paper, tuelle and vellum.  So cute and so much fun.

I used a desk from our bedroom and moved it out here, covered it with the Doc McStuffin table cloth and that was where I put all the drinks.
This is something fun I have always loved doing for the kids parties.  I freeze powerade or gatorade in ice cube trays and in the colors that match the party decor.  Then I fill a XL glass jar with sprite and dumb in the ice cubes.  As they melt they give the sprite a fruity flavor.

I got a bunch of colorful buckets, bowls and trays in the right colors at the dollar store.  Perfect for ice, chips, etc.. and if they crack its ok becuase they were cheap.  Otherwise I save them for another party.
I used my drink dispenser, and my moms that matches and filled them with turquoise and lime green Hawaiian punch.  I got paper straws in all the matching colors too.
I got this paper mache 5 at Hobby Lobby and painted it to match the colors of the party.  Chloe got these Doc McStuffin  and Lambie for Christmas, so I used them as decorations for the party.  This was the kitchen bar counter, and I covered it with a table cloth and this is where we had all the meat and taco shells.

I never planned to get a pinata, but Chloe kept asking for one and saying we were having one.  I thought about it but didn't want to pay $20 last minute just for the pinata and then spend just as much or more on candy to fill the darn thing.  Well the day before the party I had a few last minute errands to run and I was at Winco and found this one in exactly her party colors for only $7,50.  I COULD NOT pass it up, it was like it was meant to be as it was the only one in these colors.  So I grabbed a big bag of candy when I ran to Walmart and she was so excited.

The cake came from Stater Brothers, and my friend Melissa picked it up for us on her way to our house that day.  It was chocolate with a whip cream icing and filling.  YUM.

It was a great day spent with many family and friends.  The food was good and the company was great too.  Several of my family who has never been to our house, including my grandma were able to make it that day and I am so glad they did.  We were happy to have everyone that was able to make it and make Chloe's day extra special.

Now I am working on planning Little Jacob's 10th Birthday Party for the end of the month.  His birthday is the 16th, but there is alot going on every weekend until the 28th so that is when we are having his party.

  • Jacob and his brother worked on a friends quad most of the day on Thursday.

  • Saturday the boys had Saturday School for missing a day back in October.  It is only an hour long so they don't mind going.

  • I got all the laundry done and folded this weekend.

  • Waiting to find out about our trip to Arizona coming up, and all the details.  Ill share more about that later.

Still nothing.. :(ad

  • Planning the party for Little Jacob.
  • Sending the last few weeks of photos to Costco for printing and putting in my Project Life album.

    Sunday, February 1, 2015

    • Last Saturday night after Chloe's birthday party my friend Melissa stayed the night since she doesn't live all that close.  So we hung out after the party, then Sunday we didn't do much either.  Jacob made us breakfast, we did some crafting, and played on our laptops and chatted and caught up.  Then we got some pizzas for lunch and she headed home in the early afternoon.
    • Later that night we went by my sister in laws new house (they just moved days before) for dinner and to check out the new house.  Love their new house alot and she has gotten so much done in the house already and they had just moved.  Im excited for them.
    • Caleb started to get another fever Sunday night.
    • Kept the kids home from school again on Monday and Tuesday.  Darn this strep throat, just go away already.
    • The boys went back to school on Wednesday.  I think they enjoyed being home but were ready to go back at the same time.  It isn't quite the same to stay home when you are feeling horrible.
    • The cement plant in Arizona called Jacob today and they want us to come back to check out the area.
    • Just been working on the kids getting back to normal after being sick for so long.
    • Now I think Chloe is getting something, but hopefully its just a mild cold.

    • Saturday Jacob and his brother went riding for a while.  I am glad he was able to get out and do this, he has been wanting to for quite some time now.
    • Saturday I was able to finally cancel the second line on my cell phone plan, so that will save us about $10-$12 on our monthly bill. Every bit helps these days and we weren't using that line it was put as a ipad so that at the time we didn't have to pay the $250.00 cancellation fee.
    • Today we went to church this morning because my step dad was preaching.
    • After church we headed to Tehachapi to some friends house to celebrate a birthday and watch the superbowl.

    • Not much planned at the moment for the week ahead.

    • Nothing new...  Got to get on a book ASAP

    • Project Life still.
    • Wood sign orders
    • Ideas for signs to go up in the shop

    • Sending some photos to Costco so that I can get them added to the album.
    • Thinking of having them shipped to my house instead of going to pick them up since it is now on the other side of the next town over and sometimes it is quite a chore to get over in that direction.

    • Rainy several days this past week and I loved it.
    • On the non rainy days we still had tons of overcast, which makes for great stay at home kind of days.
    • One morning last week we had some crazy fog the kids were freaking out on our way to school. (not bad freaking out, but loving it kind of freaking out)
