Random Ramblings: June 2015

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

I have been missing doing my TEN ON TUESDAY posts, but life just gets away from me lately.  Plus it is summer and often there are days when I wake up and don't even know what day it for sure is.  Since my husband rotates his work schedule each week is different so really some days I have no clue what day it is, or I go the entire day thinking it is one day only to find out later I am wrong.  Please tell me I am not the only one that does this....

So on to my TEN ON TUESDAY...

1.  We watched the movie THE COBBLER the other night and it was not bad, a bit strange but not bad really.

2.  The kids go back to school in about 2 1/2 weeks already.  I am sad!

3.  We are getting excited for Knotts Berry Farm July 18.  Jacob's company is having their annual company picnic there this year, so we get to go for FREE.  WOOHOO!!

4. We got a rain storm this week, but it sure didn't last long at all.  Chloe, little Jacob and I ran out to cover the boat and by the time we were done, we were dripping wet.  Then later that day it was sunny again.  But the forecast says more for this week so I sure hope so.

5.  I applied for a job at the kids school, and I am really praying that it is in Gods plan that I work there.  The job was for an instructional aid.  I would LOVE this job so much.  The kids think it would be so cool if I worked at their school lol.  Plus I think it would help me with the transition of Chloe starting school too.  :)  We have talked about me going back to work now that she is starting school, but since Jacob's work schedule rotates it is hard to find something that will still work around the kids school schedule.  So I will just keep praying and see what happens.

6. Just thankful for the little things lately.  Happy healthy kids, a hard working husband, cars to drive, a home to live in, food to eat.  I don't ask for much and trying to remember to be thankful for  big and small things.

7. I did a few photo shoots this past week and it felt so good to be back at it.  I never really stopped but have just been focusing on my wood signs that I haven't pushed my photography much at all.  But I was reminded how much I have actually missed it.

8.  Working on some nautical baby shower party decor for my cousin today.  The stuff is coming out so cute.  I can't wait to share some photos.

9.  Last week we took the kids to the dollar movies and saw Mr. Peabody and Sherman.  The kids have seen it but Jacob and I hadn't and it was pretty cute.  I had a coupon for free popcorn, so we went to the movies for about $10 (not counting the snacks I snuck in, in my purse for the kids :)

10. Yesterday I made a pineapple upside down cheesecake for Jacob to take into work.  Basically I made a plain cheesecake, and a pineapple upside down cake and you put the pineapple upside down cake on top of the cheesecake.  He brought the rest home, maybe a slice that was all.  But I did try a tiny bite and it was really good.  Very sweet though.  But let me tell you it was HARD to get that pineapple upside down cake on top of the cheesecake, I may have been irritated as heck when I was attempting it and it wasn't the prettiest thing ever.  But he liked it and so did everyone else out at his work, so that is all that matters in the end, is that it tastes good.

I can't believe I forgot to share this layout with you.  This was a layout I did to go along with my introduction on the JUSTNICK DESIGN TEAM blog.

I was looking back through some old scrapbook pages and realized a few times when the boys were younger I did similar layouts about their favorite things at that age, but since poor Chloe has like maybe 10 scrapbook pages total (which I feel totally guilty about let me add) I thought it would be fun to do one for her too.

So I decided to also go along with the same color theme that we did her Doc McStuffin birthday party in.  I have such a thing for sequins and enamel dots lately, oh and washi tape I don't think I know how to create things without them.  I think that is part of trends and discovering my own style.  I never really felt before like I had a style but the last few months I feel like my style is really becoming its own.  I am loving it.

So here is my layout.

Orange is the new Black season 3 was just recently released on Netflix.
Have you watched any of the episodes yet?

We just finished it the other day.

I want to talk about a few things in this season.

Piper is definitely getting pretty hard core now, I think she is embracing her prison life to the full extent.  Piper's new underground business.  She is now in the dirty underwear business.  I can honestly say this one made me cringe just a bit at the thought of that.  Nasty! And then her sister in law came up with a recipe to create "juice" for other underwear.  Just yuck.

Piper and Alex broke up.  WOW.  Alex is pretty paranoid and Piper seems to have a new love interest in the new tattooed girl Stella.  The shows leaves us as Stella is going to get out in the next few days, but steals all Pipers business money and Piper sets her up in the prison to get caught with contraband but we don't know what happens to her exactly.

Alex was having such a hard time this season.  First she finds out that the reason she is back in prison is because of Piper, then her and Piper break up.  She is completely obsessed with thinking Lolly was there to harm her for her old boss.  But in the final episode we find out that a guard is actually there for that and it leaves us wondering what happened to her.  Does he kill her in the green house or does she get away?  We don't know yet...

Then there is Daya and Bennett.  Uh, he like just vanished! He left the crib on the side of the road and was never heard from again.  Ok if he was going to leave her and his job I still would like to know where he went and what happened to change his mind.  I mean he proposed to her and everything.  Then bam he is just gone, give us something more!
And the relationship between Daya and her mom.  I was so angry when her mom Aleida starts talking to Mendez's mother and asks for money. Who else wanted to reach through the tv and slap her.  I did.
Sophia got thrown in SHU for something that wasn't even her fault and the season ended with her still in there.  That part was so sad.  I said the moment Danny was speaking to his father that his father was still going to order Sophia to the SHU.  JERK.  I don't trust him and I think bad things are coming for the prison with the new owners now.

Soso tried to kill herself.  She feels all alone, but in the end the other were looking out for her and helped her out and I think this is going to be a growing relationship with all of them.

Pennsatucky was sexually assaulted by a guard.  I for sure did not see this one coming until he started acting very crazy and ordering her around, but yet the next minute trying to be super nice to her.  Even though when the show started I don't think she had many admirers, but still doesn't deserve any of that.  Then when she is talking to Big Boo about it she says she isn't angry just sad, that is heart breaking.  I think they ended up with a good plan to get her off van duty.  Now we will see if he is the same way with the next new van driver.

Then there was Nicky who got put in Max.  She was still there when the season ended, who knows how she is cooping or what is happening to her,

One thing I really liked this season was that they gave alot more of many of the inmates back stories, some on how they got to be in prison and some of their childhood growing up.  I think it makes them seem more like real people now not just prisoners we started watching on Netflix.

Well I have to say that Netflix sure left us wanting more and giving us a big reason to come back for season 4 with all of these HUGE cliffhangers.  What really kills me is that we have to wait an entire YEAR for season 4 to come out.  Really, that sucks.

I hope they touch on many of the unknowns for the next season.

Who is your favorite Prisoner of Litchfield?  Do you have any predictions for next season?

Until next year Orange is the New Black!

Today I was over on the JUSTNICK design team blog sharing a fun layout.

I know that washi tape has been around for so long, but lately I seem to be obsessed.  So much so that I created this layout with all my washi tape.  I just took a piece of white cardstock and started laying out strips of washi tape to create a rainbow affect.

I then wanted to make the title and some of the accent pieces pop so I decided to use black cardstock to make them stand out against the colors of washi tape.

I really wanted my photo to be the main focus on top of the washi tape so I printed it in a 6x6 inch size so that it was very large.  I also changed it into black and white so the colors in the original photo didn't distract from the colors of the washi tape.
For my title I used the cut file LIFE and then typed out the rest of the title.  For the starts I used them from the ALL BOY cut file.
Once I had the photo and stars attached to the layout, I decided to add some sequins to match as well.  I just sprinkled them on right next to the coordinating strips of washi tape.

I printed my journaling and added it to the bottom of the layout and it was done.  This layout was super easy and you could also create the same effect with patterned paper as well.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my layout.  Be sure to check out the JUSTNICK STORE for all the awesome cut files and make sure to check often as more are always added.

Happy Tuesday.  Are you enjoying summer break yet?  We are but my brain is already back in Back To School Mode because my kids already go back in mid July.  I am so sad, I feel like we just got started and now it is half over already.  But that is fine we are still going to make the best of what time we have left.  Plus once they do go back they won't go to school on Fridays, so we can still plan things around that.
Back to School always makes me want to get into an organization mood, with a new planner, new pens... So today I thought it would be a perfect thing to share with you.
I was over on the CLEAR SCRAPS - CREATING MADE EASY KIT CLUB BLOG this past weekend sharing this fun project.  It is a contacts file folder.
Come on over HERE to check out the full post.
You can also find all of the kit information HERE  - order yours before they are all gone.

I love the clear sheets the most.

I internet met Kendra a few years ago when I started following her photography on facebook, and then started reading her blog.  We became Facebook friends and then she started a group for Project Life and asked if anyone wanted to join, so I instantly jumped on it.  It is a small group and I like it.  Well then recently she asked on her page if anyone was interested in guest posting on her blog to fill up some days right after she had her second baby.  I thought that would be pretty fun, so I wrote her and she did ask me to join in on the fun.  She left the topic up to me, and I choose Project Life.
My post was up the other day and I wanted to share it with you.
You can find my post on her blog HERE at Hanging with the Huie's.

Today, I wanted to share with you a little about Project Life and how to get started.
What is Project Life you ask?
Project Life is a solution-based approach to scrapbooking that was created to simplify the process in order to allow you more time to enjoy life! It requires no glue, no scissors, no tools, and no skills of any kind. The design of our products takes the guess work out of layout design so that you can focus on recording your everyday moments through your photos and journaling. The simple design is stylish and makes it possible for you to complete more pages in less time. Find out more at www.beckyhiggins.com
You can do Project Life anyway you choose. You can start with the most basic or you can embellish your layouts the same way you would a traditional layout. There is NO wrong way, it is your memories that you are documenting.
To get started though all you need are a few basic things.

1. A Project Life Core Kit. These kits you can pick up on Becky Higgins website, or you can find them at your local craft store and many online retailers sell them as well. A core kit has all the cards you will need to complete an album for an entire year. They tell you which cards to place where for your opening page, and the final page as well.

2. Pocket Pages. There are so many varieties to choose from so you can find pages to fit any photos you have.
3. A pen for journaling
4. Photos of course.
There are many ways you can approach your documenting for Project Life. Some people do a weekly spread, others do a monthly spread and sometimes even a daily spread. It is totally up to you. Remember it is your memories so you can document as much or as little as you want. If one day is extra special you can make an entire layout focus on one day, not just the week. I personally do my layouts in a weekly format. Some weeks I have so many photos I cram all my journaling into the cards, and some weeks I don’t have many photos so I add a few extra filler decorative cards. Whatever works!
Now back a few years ago when I first started my road down the Project Life way of Scrapbooking I thought all my photos had to be taken with my big DSLR camera and I was so bummed if I missed a photo op that day or didn’t bring along my camera to an event. So then I got frustrated because I felt like it wasn’t a true “photo a day” documentation. Fast forward several years to now. I love my DSLR but frankly many days I do not want to haul it around with all 3 of the kids to whatever event or day to day task we are doing that day. Enter the LOVE I have for my iphone. I am still using an iphone4, but hey it gets the job done. The pictures are not nearly as wonderful as my DSLR takes, but sometimes it is so much more than just great pictures, but great memories and being able to be in the moment and not worry about the big camera. I take 85% if not more of my photos with my iphone. For the quality they are just fine blown up to a 4x6 photo to slip into the albums.
Now moving forward with the capturing moments through my iphone brings me to another part of Project Life I want to talk about. The all new Project Life App. At the moment it is only available for the apple devices, but I know they are working super hard to make it available for android devices really soon as well. The app is AMAZING and saves even more time when creating a layout. I even made a recipe layout of what we were having that night, while the dinner was still cooking. I mean it took all of minutes to finish the entire layout. Now it is saved in my app and waiting for me to get it printed and into an album.
The Project Life app has completely changed my way of using Project Life. I was so excited as to how quick it was I even created this fun page to add to our family album about all our current favorite tv shows we watch. I looked up the tv shows on my phone, snapped a screen shot, and plugged them right into the template on my app and done.

I volunteered in my sons class for and Easter party that they had, I snapped a few photos and when I got home that day I created the layout, even before he got home from school that day. I am telling you it is that quick and easy.

I used to be completely anti digital. I wanted nothing to do with scrapbooking on the computer, I like the hands on part of it. But now, I am all about it. With three kids, my husband who works many many hours and I run my etsy store and my photography, there isn’t as much time anymore to sit and actually get my hands dirty so instead of missing out on documenting all the life events, and even the day to day I can whip it up in minutes. Just think you had such an eventful day, and you can get the kids into bed and lay in bed yourself and complete 1,2 or 5 layouts from that days events. Or Sunday evening you can create a layout for the past week before the new week begins.
This year I am still going to continue to document our family memories with the physical Project Life because that is how I started, but I am considering doing our family album all digital next year.
Another thing I wanted to talk about in the area of documenting with Project Life is that you can document so many things, it doesn’t just have to be big events, or holidays or even the day to day. Another way I am using Project Life in physical form is to create School Albums for my kids. Since they get actual papers from school and school pictures, I want to keep this album non digital. Each year I have them write their names on a Project Life card so that we can see how their writing changes each year. I have page protectors of all shapes and sizes that I have added art work, report cards, and school work in.

The last thing on this subject I want to talk about is a recipe album. I have wanted to make a recipe album for so long. But I want one for myself, and one for each of my kids to take with them when they leave home (they have many many years to go, but still ). So the thought of buying all the products for 4 albums was a bit overwhelming. So now that the Project Life app is so easy, I have started a recipe album for our favorite family recipes. The best part, is I only have to make the layout once, and I can just print it as many times as I would like! How easy is that!.
I have some big plans to start a Heritage album about my grandma’s life as well. That is in the works, and I plan to do that in a digital format too so that I can print out as many pages and make several albums for my family members.
So whatever way you choose to document your memories, remember that Project Life is designed to make it simple and easy for us so that we can enjoy the moments we are living not spending all our time scrapbooking them.
I hope this at least gives you a little help getting started with documenting your memories.

Today I am over on the LAYOUT A WEEK blog sharing this fun layout.
It was so much fun combining all these events from last summer onto one layout.
Now I don't have to stress about doing 20 separate layouts, they are all together right on one layout, and it was super easy to create the layout in photoshop.

Come on over and check it out HERE .

Do you spell it donut or doughnut?
Which is the official correct way to spell it? I have no idea, but I have always spelled it donut, so I will just continue.
Well speaking of donuts, did you know the this past Friday June 5, 2015 was NATIONAL DONUT DAY?  I had no idea until someone mentioned it to me, and then I had to go ask the computer man google as Chloe says.  Yep sure enough it was a real thing, and many places were giving away a free donut.  Darn that we don't have a closer Krispie Kreme donut shop by us.

So of course I HAD to get the kids some donuts, I mean it was a National Day and all.

'National Doughnut Day', or National Donut Day, celebrated in the United States of America, is on the first Friday of June each year, succeeding the Doughnut Day event created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the men and women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. The holiday celebrates the doughnut (a.k.a. "donut") – an edible, torus-shaped piece of dough which is deep-fried and sweetened. Many American doughnut stores offer free doughnuts on National Doughnut Day. In 2009, both independent doughnut shops and large national franchises offered free doughnuts in the United States.

If you want to learn a little more donut day history you can check it out HERE.

What is your favorite kind of donut?  Just looking at this picture and writing about donuts is making my mouth water!  I have a few favorite kinds, oh what the heck who am I kidding, is there really a bad donut?  No I don't think so. But if I am left with a choice I would have to say my top three favorite are

Several years ago we were in Las Vegas and in the lobby of our hotel there was a Krispie Kreme shop so I got us some for breakfast that morning.  One that I tried that I fell in love with was the
 OMG so yum!

I think that one day this summer Jacob and I need to take a little trip down to the closest Krispie Kreme and get us a variety of super yummy donuts.  I love that you can watch the donuts being made right in the store.

Well all this talk of donuts isn't good for trying to loose weight either because now I just want to eat my computer monitor lol.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for National Donut Day next year.

One thing I love so much about Netflix is that is allows us to watch shows that we never started watching when they first came on tv, or shows that I even forgot about and didn't remember they even existed until I saw them on Netflix.

Take for example the two shows we just started watching.

Right at this moment Jacob and I are currently hooked on the show THE FOSTERS.

Teenager Callie Jacobs is placed in a foster home with a lesbian couple and their blend of biological, adoptive and foster children.

I remember seeing a commercial once or twice and thinking it looked pretty good, but I hate starting a show in the middle of a season and having no clue what is going on.  So I never really started watching it because I figured what was the point I would be lost on all of it, but now since it is on Netflix we started at season 1, we just started season 2 this morning and season 3 starts on regular tv this next week. We already have the DVR set up to start recording it.
Loving this show so much!

I also remember seeing previews last year for this show and then I guess I forgot and never thought about it again until I saw it recently on Netflix.  There is only 1 season on there, and season 2 starts back on regular tv in August.

Follows a young woman's life after she is diagnosed with cancer.

This show I wanted to watch and also never started until I came across it again on Netflix.

A vapid aspiring model killed in a car crash gets brought back to life as an intelligent, overweight lawyer, hoping to find the meaning of inner beauty.

Loved this one.  This one has been off the air for a while, so it was fun to start watching it from season 1 until the end.

Our favorite made for Netflix show is of course
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK .  The new season comes to Netflix June 12th.  YAY.

The story of Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties who is sentenced to fifteen months in prison after being convicted of a decade-old crime of transporting money for her drug-dealing girlfriend.

What are some of your favorite shows on Netflix?

I remember exactly what we were doing 8 years ago today! We were welcoming this handsome little guy into our lives.
I can't believe he is really 8 years old.

He's such an amazing little guy.
He is funny and goofy in the best possible way. He loves to joke around and act silly and always making silly faces. This handsome little guy of ours always has a smile on his face no matte what. You can't help but smile too.
He's often calling u from the other room and when we answer what he says he just wanted to tell us he loves us. ❤️
I love watching him grow and learn and discover new things.
He currently is going to start third grade and loves to ride his bike and skateboard. He loves you tube and the boys just started their own channels on you tube. They want to become famous like some of their favorite you tubers.

We are going to take him to lunch at Johns Incredible Pizza for lunch and he picked steak for his birthday dinner. Yesterday Chloe and I made him his birthday cake. He wanted chocolate so that is what we made and I found raspberry sherbet icing for the top. Yum.

Mommy and Daddy and little Jacob an Chloe love you very much!

Yesterday I was over on the CLEAR SCRAPS - CREATING MADE EASY KIT CLUB blog sharing this fun project.
Come check out my post HERE.

I created some clear magnet clips to hold all of the kids school papers.  One for each of them in different colors and with their photos on them so they can't mix them up.
I am hoping that once school starts we can be more organized with all of the important papers, papers that need to be signed or book orders and now we will know exactly where to look.

This months kit was so much fun to work with.
You can find the kit and all the information about it HERE.
