Weight loss is such a yucky subject. I have struggled with being overweight for quite some time now. I have tried "going on a diet", walking on the treadmill etc. But I have never really stuck to it or something came up and I missed a few days on the treadmill - whatever the case I have just never stuck with it before.

I am excited though to start this new journey to become a healthier version of myself. I have decided to use a little help from alli®. alli® weight loss aid is not exactly what you are thinking. There is something that I know I need to do, not just for my own health but for my family. If I don't take better care of myself, then what good am I going to be to my family.  So now it is time to get serious about it. I know it won't be easy and it isn't something that happens overnight. It is a change I need to make in myself now though, to better reach those goals in my future and will benefit me for the rest of my life.

I have been trying to figure out when to start making this change, and I have started little things, but nothing major yet. I started by trying to cut down on my soda intake, and gosh that is harder than you would think. The struggle is so real I am not even joking. But I have noticed that the more water I drink the better I feel. That right there is big! Now I am still drinking soda and some days too much, but I am learning and growing and trying everyday. I hate hot soda, so I will not have the ability to carry around a soda with ice with me while I am working with the kids and going from class to class. So right here this is going to already set me up for drinking more water. I have a large water bottle I am going to take with me and fill with ice and water. For starters, I am going to give myself permission to drink a diet pepsi maybe with my lunch break and one when I get home from work.  That will be a cut back already.  Then eventually I would like to get down to maybe one a day.

I also thought that the best time to start making changes is right now along with starting my new job. I have been a stay at home mom for many many years, and now I will be working at the kids school, on my feet walking around all day. Not that I sat on my butt and did nothing at home, as any stay at home mom knows this isn't true, but I wasn't really "active" I would say.  Walking to the laundry room and back doesn't give much exercise at all. But now I will be going between classrooms all day, and supervising on the playground. So I am sure I will be gaining many steps in a day.

Something else I know that was a bad habit I had while staying home was I would snack.  Something I did without realizing it. It wasn't always a good snack, it was a “pass the time I have a few minutes before the kids get out of school, but not enough time to do much else so let me grab a snack on my way out the door” kind of snack. Whatever it was, it wasn't always that great.  Now without being at home with those snacking moments I know that this new job is going to help with this so much too.

Now I don't know about you, but I am a huge list maker. I make so many lists in so many notebooks sometimes I have a hard time keeping up with my own self.  But I like to see things written down so I can see them it seems to just sit better in my brain this way.  So I created this printable to help me keep track of some of my goals, short daily ones and long term ones as well. After I fill it out each day I am hole punching it and putting it into a binder. This way I will have all my goals and progress to look back on. Sometimes it may not seem like you are getting to your goal, but when really each day is a step in the right direction and when you can look back on last week, two weeks ago or your first day you will really see how far you have come. I think this helps with motivating and inspiring yourself to keep going.

Each morning I fill out my goals and then I tape it to my bathroom mirror so while I am getting ready for my day I see it and it is planted in my brain.

I think that with weight loss, part of my struggles before have also been setting unrealistic or too high of goals for myself.  Well, not even that really, but to say I wanted to lose 50 pounds seems like a lifetime of trying to lose it, but now I have decided that I want to celebrate the small goals, that don't seem so far off in the future. So I want to set a goal for myself daily and weekly and celebrate and be proud of myself for reaching those goals.  Like for my first week of work I am setting my goals as :
* 2-3 sodas a day
* 500 steps a day
* drink 3 bottles of water a day
* no eating after 7 pm

I have decided that for the first week or two or three I am not going to focus so much on my actual weight loss, but trying to make better choices for food, drink, steps and that will help me be better focused on the long term goal in the end.
